Poetry begins where speech fails. Wracked with joy or sorrow, we break into poetry: our syntax shatters, we rock, we repeat a word or exclamation until it’s an incantation. But even serenity, connection, awe can leave us at a loss for words. Cornelius Eady, Edward Hirsch, Paisley Rekdal explore how this being at a loss for words might lead us to poetry, to reach for that something beyond speech we approach in poems. After the pre-recorded conversation, the poets engage in live Q&A with the Festival audience. Moderated by Perennials Podcast host Victoria Russell.
