Honor Beat, Native Nations Poets by In-Na-Po (Reading + Q&A)

During Native songs the drummers perform loud beats, sometimes called “honor beats.” These beats call the dancers to honor the Drum. With this In-Na-Po reading, tribal poets Ray Young Bear, Heid E. Erdrich, Joy Harjo, LeAnne Howe, and Craig Santos Perez honor the songs of our nations, the drum beat of our histories, and the survivance of Indigenous peoples through their strong new poetics. After the pre-recorded reading, the poets engage in live Q&A with the Festival audience. Introduction and moderation by Kimberly M. Blaeser, Founding Director of In-Na-Po.
