Jillian Weise

The Cyborg Jillian Weise is a poet, video artist and disability rights activist. She coined the word "tryborg" to describe any nondisabled colonizer of cyborg experience, such as Ray Kurzweil, Elon Musk and Donna Haraway. Her books include The Amputee's Guide to Sex (2007), the novel The Colony (2010), The Book of Goodbyes (2013) and Cyborg Detective (2019). She performed for five years (2016-20) as the fictional character Tipsy Tullivan across social media. Her essays have appeared in Granta, NYT, Tin House and, most recently, in the anthology Disability Visibility edited by Alice Wong. Her play, "A Kim Deal Party," premiered this Fall in an Art-A-Thon to benefit the Iowa City nonprofit Public Space One. Her website is jillianweise.com.
